About Autism Consultants

John Forrester is a specialist autism consultant based in the North East of Scotland. He has been involved in the support and assessment of individuals with ASD since 1991, working exclusively with people with ASD since 1996. During his training and development he has completed a degree in Autism (adults) and has developed assessment expertise through collaborative work with NHS, voluntary sector, local authorities, and people and families affected by ASD.

Interested in most anything related to autism, John's special interests are in diagnosis of ASD and forensic issues in ASD. Since 2003 he has been involved in the diagnostic assessment of several hundred people, working closely with NHS departments in this developing area within adult mental health and learning disability services. John has also undertaken assessment of behaviour, needs and risk with many individuals with ASD during his career, and continues to work closely with the courts, police, and legal departments - providing formal assessment of risk or management/supports.

During his employment with Grampian Autistic Society, John's role developed to Training & Assessment Consultant. Then and since working as a private autism consultant (2011), John has delivered various autism training courses and presentations to conferences, social-health care staff and to education, prison staff and police departments across Scotland.
